Canada’s Brookfield Asset Management and technology giant Microsoft have announced plans to collaborate on the development of new wind and solar farms, aiming to introduce over 10.5 gigawatts of fresh renewable energy capacity.
This initiative was revealed by the companies on Wednesday.
According to a Microsoft spokesperson, the agreement outlines Brookfield’s commitment to deliver the new renewable energy capacity between 2026 and 2030 across the United States and Europe.
Financial details of the partnership were not disclosed, though the Financial Times, citing recent industry trends, reported that the project’s cost is expected to exceed $10 billion.
While both Brookfield and Microsoft refrained from divulging specific financial terms, the deal highlights the growing urgency to fulfill clean energy targets while addressing the soaring energy demands of cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
