Four miners tragically lost their lives on Saturday evening after becoming trapped in a mining pit in Yadagungume, Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State. They were caught in the middle of digging and attempting to excavate lead, having been underground for over a month during their work. An anonymous source revealed to WikiTimes that the victims died on the spot due to the pressure.
According to WikiTimes, the caretaker chairman of Ningi LGA, Ibrahim Zubairu, confirmed that the incident occurred at an illegal mining site located at Kogo Kadage forest, seven kilometers away from Yadagungume town. He expressed surprise upon receiving the report of the incident, as the government had already banned all forms of illegal mining in the local government area.
Zubairu delegated a committee to investigate the mining activities and other land-related matters, with the Burra Divisional Police Officer supervising the illegal mining sites. He issued a stern warning to people to abstain from engaging in illegal mining activities, as the government would take decisive action against offenders.
In addition to the condolences, the Chairman prayed for the eternal rest of the deceased and urged their families to find strength in coping with the irreparable loss.
