The President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) who doubled as the Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the restoration of electricity to the neighbouring Niger Republic.
Tinubu also ordered the suspension of economic sanctions placed on Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso by the regional organisation.
This is the resolution of the officials of the ECOWAS during the Extraordinary Summit on Saturday in Abuja.

As the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the organization, Tinubu emphasized the need for constructive dialogue over punitive measures, highlighting the regional pursuit of democratic governance and collective prosperity.
Tinubu emphasised the spirit of compassion and fraternity, urging for a suspension of sanctions during the holy month of Ramadan and Lent.
He called for a renewed commitment to cooperation and economic development, stressing the importance of addressing common challenges collectively.
Tinubu appealed to the leadership of the affected nations to embrace dialogue and work towards shared progress, stressing the duty of ECOWAS leaders to foster unity and prosperity in the region.
The regional body had in August last year imposed sections on the countries after a series of military coups in the three Sahelian nations.
Former Nigerien President Mohammad Bousoum is still in detention after the military intervention.
