The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has attributed the recent fuel scarcity in parts of Nigeria, particularly in Lagos and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, to a hitch in the discharge operations of several vessels.
Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the state-owned oil firm Olufemi Soneye said in a statement he issued on Saturday, that the company is collaborating with all stakeholders to address the issue and restore normalcy in operations.
The statement partly read, “The NNPC Ltd. wishes to state that the tightness in fuel supply and distribution witnessed in some parts of Lagos and the FCT is a result of a hitch in the discharge operations of a couple of vessels.
“The company further states that it is working round the clock with all stakeholders to resolve the situation and restore normalcy in operations.”
This is coming less than three weeks after fuel scarcity hit stations nationwide, leading to a hike in product prices.
But NNPCL clarified that it was caused by disruptions in the ship-to-ship (STS) due to thunderstorms, which also impacted berthing at jetties, truck load-outs, and the transportation of products to filling stations.
