President Bola Tinubu announced on Friday in Abuja that Nigeria has the potential to become an African hub in the global electric vehicle revolution.
Speaking at the commissioning of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Conversion, Filling, Reverse Engineering, and Training Centre, he emphasized his administration’s commitment to various energy options for Nigeria’s transport sector.

Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu highlighted Nigeria’s abundant lithium ore, essential for electric vehicles and battery manufacturing, and praised NASENI’s efforts in this direction.
Tinubu declared his administration’s vision to promote domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependency, emphasizing Nigeria’s potential to become a continental and global industrial giant.
He expressed satisfaction with NASENI’s progress under its new management, noting that it fulfils the vision of its founding fathers to create an institution beneficial to both the everyday lives of people and the Nigerian economy.
NASENI CEO Khalil Halilu highlighted the strategic location of the facility in Utako, a transport hub connecting the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the rest of the country.
