The African Energy Chamber (AEC) has revealed that Senegalese President Macky Sall will serve as the keynote speaker at the commencement of this year’s Africa Energy Week (AEW) scheduled to be held October 16 to 20, 2023.
Energy News Africa reports that the conference will take place at the Cape Town International Conference Center, South Africa, and President Sall is recognized for his commitment to addressing energy poverty and sustainability.
Influential leaders, experts, and stakeholders from the global energy sector are expected in the conference.
According to the report, under President Sall’s leadership, Senegal’s energy sector stands out as an example of transformative growth. Notably, he has championed projects aimed at tapping into Senegal’s hydrocarbon potential.
It added that Senegal’s strategic partnerships within the MSGBC region are pivotal to its energy and economic trajectory. The MSGBC region’s gas industry is set for accelerated growth in 2023. The GTA project’s anticipated first gas production in early 2024 is expected to bring a cascade of industry benefits, further boosting Senegal and the MSGBC region’s economic prospects.
Furthermore, developments in the gas sector are on track for final investment decisions in 2023, presenting promising investment opportunities across the region. New licensing rounds and drilling campaigns in Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea-Conakry are set to usher in a fresh wave of investment and exploration.
This growth is forecasted to have a positive impact on the regional economy, bolstering the contribution to regional GDP and laying the groundwork for a just and inclusive energy transition.
Senegal is embarking on a path to diversify its energy sources, placing a significant emphasis on renewable energy projects.
