Saudi Aramco: Massive Gas Reserves Boost at Jafurah Field

Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman revealed on Sunday that an additional 15 trillion standard cubic feet of gas have been proven at Saudi state oil company Aramco’s Jafurah field, marking a significant milestone in the kingdom’s efforts to develop its unconventional gas resources.

With this discovery, the total reserves at the Jafurah field have surged to 229 trillion cubic feet of gas and 75 billion barrels of condensates, as stated by Prince Abdulaziz in a press release on the state news agency SPA.

The Jafurah field, touted as Saudi Arabia’s largest unconventional non-oil associated gas reservoir, is poised to become a cornerstone of the kingdom’s gas development strategy, leveraging advanced extraction techniques akin to those utilized in the shale gas industry.

Initially estimated to necessitate investments totaling $110 billion in 2020, the Jafurah field represents a massive opportunity for Saudi Aramco to bolster its gas production capacity and diversify its energy portfolio.

By 2030, Saudi Aramco aims to ramp up ethane output to 420 million cubic feet per day, while also projecting the production of approximately 630,000 barrels per day of gas liquids and condensates from the Jafurah field.
