Russia’s energy ministry has suggested extending the current ban on gasoline exports into September and October, according to a report by RBC daily, citing a letter from Deputy Energy Minister Pavel Sorokin.
Initially, Russia imposed a partial gasoline export ban from March 1 to August 31 to prevent fuel shortages and control rising prices following Ukrainian drone attacks on refineries and technical outages.
The ban was temporarily lifted in May and extended through the end of July.
According to Reuters, Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak indicated on Monday that the government might reinstate the gasoline export ban from August if there are domestic supply issues.
The proposal aims to ensure stable fuel supplies within Russia and protect the federal budget.
