The Tiga ten (10) Megawatts Hydro Power Station project constructed by the Ganduje administration which has been the dream of this government has now been completed. The project is currently on pre-commissioning test.
In his comment while on an inspection visit to the project site, the governor said he was highly impressed and satisfied at the spate at which the work is progressing and commended the efforts of the State Independent Power Company, (KHEDCO) and other stakeholders involve in the project.
The governor also promised to see the commissioning of the 10 megawatts generated from Tiga station up its final stage. He explained that the power generated from the station would be used to take care of the Tamburawa Water Treatment Plant and the Kano Metropolitan streetlights.
“With this, our water issue will be dealt with decisively. So also, our streetlights issues will soon become history. While this project will be commissioned on the 29th of January, 2023, we are still on a similar project in Challawa Godge Dam, where we are generating 6 Megawatts; the governor said.
“For the generation and distribution of energy, the state government had established an Independent Power Company, as the law stipulates. We came up with Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company (KHEDCO). A limited liability Company.
The Managing Director Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company (KHEDCO) Engineer Hadiza Ahmed Tukur said, ‘presently at Tiga there were two generators; one is vertical which is generating eight capacity megawatts While the other is horizontal and it is running two Megawatts capacity of power and that is why we termed it as the ten Megawatts Tiga Hydro Power Generation Plant’.
Some of the residents in the state have started jubilation having received the news of the completion of the project, as the project would improve electricity generation, addressing power shortage and boost economic activities in the state.
