The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) has exciting news to share as it announces the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant (GIPP). The ceremony is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 4th, 2023, at the GIPP Project Site in Gwagwalada, FCT, Abuja at 10.00 am.
The Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant is a collaborative effort involving the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), the United States government, and General Electric Nigeria (GE Nigeria). In this partnership, the NNPCL will be responsible for supplying natural gas, while the United States plays a significant role as the project’s donor. General Electric Nigeria, on the other hand, will supply the crucial gas turbines.
The groundbreaking ceremony will be graced by the esteemed presence of the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and will be hosted by the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the NNPCL, Mele Kolo Kyari.
Once completed, the Gwagwalada Independent Power Plant is expected to be a game-changer, generating an impressive 1,350 megawatts of electricity. This significant capacity will be seamlessly integrated into the Nigerian national electricity grid, addressing the country’s growing power needs and contributing to its energy independence.
The GIPP project represents a crucial step towards ensuring a more reliable and sustainable power supply for Nigeria, fostering economic growth and development.
