NNPC/SPDC JV Commit to Sustainable Development with New ICT Centre at Bauchi State University

The NNPC Ltd and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), through their Joint Venture (JV) partnership, have reaffirmed their dedication to sustainable development projects in Nigeria.

This was disclosed during the commissioning of a state-of-the-art ICT Centre at Bauchi State University, Gadau (BASUG), built by the NNPC/SPDC JV, on Thursday.

At the commissioning ceremony in Gadau, Bauchi State, NNPC Limited’s Chief Upstream Investment Officer, Mr. Bala Wunti, emphasized the JV’s long-standing commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Represented by Mr. Sani Kabo, Head of Business Services at NUIMS, Wunti stated, “Today’s historic commissioning of this ultra-modern ICT Centre at BASUG is a testament to the positive and sustainable impact of the oil and gas industry on Nigerians.”

Wunti highlighted that for decades, the JV has consistently invested in impactful CSR initiatives nationwide.

He noted that the successful completion of the ICT center highlights NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to sustainable development, improving access to quality education, and fostering innovation in Nigeria.

He also expressed gratitude to the local community for their support and hospitality towards the project.

Wunti called for ongoing support from the Bauchi and Gombe State governments, traditional institutions, and local communities, particularly concerning the Kolmani Integrated Development Project.

The Managing Director of SPDC and Country Chair of Shell Companies in Nigeria, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, described the commissioning as a significant social investment project for the JV in Northeast Nigeria.

Okunbor acknowledged the collaborative efforts of both parties in the JV, stating, “The journey to establish this facility was driven by a vision to enhance critical educational infrastructure, support access to high-demand IT skills, and inspire the growth of the IT ecosystem in Bauchi State and northeast Nigeria.”

The cutting-edge ICT Centre features a Wi-Fi lounge, computer laboratories, conference rooms, lecture halls, office spaces, and a combined 3D printing and hardware lab.

Additionally, it is equipped with smart interactive boards and high-performance computers, providing a conducive environment for learning and innovation.
