The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, Mele Kyari paid a courtesy visit to the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi on Friday.
The visit highlighted the growing cooperation between the two organizations in combating the smuggling of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol.
According to a post by the NNPC’s official handle on X, Kyari praised the immediate impact of the NCS’s “Operation Whirlwind,” which has significantly reduced the smuggling of PMS across Nigeria’s borders.
He noted that PMS evacuation to border-states has dropped from 32 million liters per day to about 25 million liters in just two months due to the operation.
“Both parties pledged to strengthen collaboration in sustaining the onslaught against cross-border smuggling, so as to attain Nigeria’s energy security,” the statement concluded.
