Gbenga Komolafe, the Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), announced that Nigeria’s average daily oil production was 1.61 million barrels per day as of July 23.
Komolafe disclosed this during a two-day public and investigative hearing on oil theft and losses held by the House of Representatives Special Committee.
He said the production increased from the June average of 1.25 million barrels per day, emphasising Nigeria’s status as Africa’s top crude oil producer.
Detailing the regulatory strategies under the Petroleum Industry Act 2021, Komolafe noted that the NUPRC’s mandates include calibration and certification of metering systems, publication of upstream operation reports, and regulatory oversight.
