The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has firmly denied allegations that it owes $6.8 billion to international oil traders and refuted claims of failing to remit funds to the federation account since January.
In a statement, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, explained that transactions in the oil sector typically involve credit and assured that the company is meeting its financial obligations promptly.
Soneye also emphasized that NNPC regularly remits taxes, contributing significantly to the Federation Account Allocation Committee.
Furthermore, he clarified that NNPC is not responsible for overseeing the quality of imported fuel, a role handled by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority. Soneye reiterated NNPC’s commitment to transparency and accountability, noting that the company remains open to media inquiries.
However, he did not address the ongoing fuel scarcity affecting several cities.
