The Kogi State in Central Nigeria has announced plans to generate electricity locally to accelerate its development.
Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, the state’s Commissioner for Information, announced this while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting, chaired by Governor Usman Ododo in Lokoja, the state’s capital on Wednesday.
“These and other significant decisions were made to propel the state to new heights,” Fanwo stated. “It is imperative to act now because Kogi possesses the resources needed to generate and distribute power, enhancing the well-being of our people and driving development.”

Additionally, the executive council has approved measures for the state to take a significant role in mineral exploration, aligning with Federal Government policies on solid minerals mining and processing. “This approval aims to capitalize on the state’s abundant mineral deposits, including lithium, gold, and others,” Fanwo added.
The state’s council also resolved to reduce the cost of governance to allocate more resources for extensive infrastructure development.
