The Nigerian Government has established a Renewable Energy College in Kogi State, North Central region, marking an advancement in its efforts to promote sustainable energy solutions. The groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
Governor Usman Ododo of the state, in his address, highlighted the college’s potential to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change by advancing renewable energy sources and promoting adaptation strategies across the country.
Minister Uche Nnaji, in his remarks, described the establishment of Nigeria’s first renewable energy college as a pivotal step towards sustainable development and the country’s energy transition goals. He underscored the importance of addressing the manpower deficit in the renewable energy sector and noted that the college would be instrumental in harnessing Nigeria’s abundant energy resources.
Dr. Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, hailed the college as a landmark achievement in Nigeria’s pursuit of renewable energy solutions. according to him, the initiative would not only fill critical gaps in manpower development but also enhance the country’s knowledge and innovation in renewable energy, offering vast opportunities for future growth.
