The Federal Government of Nigeria has reiterated its willingness to continue to support the Nigerian Navy in its overall fight against oil theft. The government has promised to provide more patrol vessels, surveillance equipment for the Nigerian Navy to ensure total coverage of Nigeria’s maritime domain.
This was disclosed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) George Akume, in his remark at the Nigerian Navy 2023 ceremonial sunset and awards night in Abuja this weekend.
He said that the efforts of the Nigerian Navy had led to delisting of Nigeria from the International Maritime Bureau (IBM) piracy list and improved revenue for the government.
“This has led to increase daily crude oil production of Nigeria to about 1.5 million barrels per day as of November 2023,” he added.
He said that investing fully in provision of support for the Nigerian Navy, will not only guarantee economic growth, but it will further lead to national development and improve the wealth of the people in general.
He added that the Tinubu led administration is bent on working tirelessly to address operational challenges regarding platforms, surveillance equipment and logistics, among others.
