Nigeria: JED Mourns Electrocution Victims

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) has expressed sadness over Saturday’s transformer explosion in Kabong community, in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, which left no fewer than six persons dead.

A statement by the Head of Corporate Communications, JED, Dr Friday Adakole, explained that the fire incident also left many people wounded and destroyed residential buildings, including shops within the area.

Energy News Africa explained that preliminary investigations have shown that the accident occurred due to the contact of a high-tension line with the low-tension lines, causing an abnormal voltage supply. This led to the source feeder tripping off and inter-tripping the transmission end source from the Makeri Transmission Station.

The company assures that it will closely monitor the situation and provide accurate information about this regrettable occurrence. An evaluation of the root causes is already in progress, and appropriate measures will be implemented to prevent such incidents in the future.

Jos Electricity Distribution Plc also acknowledges and appreciates the support of traditional and community leaders in the affected area for their assistance in managing the accident’s aftermath.
