“National Grid Shutdown Treasonable” – Nigerian Govt to Labour Union

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, on Thursday, condemned the shutdown of the national grid during the suspended industrial action by organized labour, describing the act as a treasonable felony. He emphasized that such an action is unprecedented globally, stating that nowhere in the world has organized labour shut down a country’s national grid.

Energy Afrique reported that the electricity workers in Nigeria shut down the national grid on Monday, causing a nationwide blackout that impacted homes, businesses, and essential services across the country.

Akume said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making determined efforts to rebuild the country but “They (labour) want to destroy it. Nowhere in the world has labour ever tampered with the national grid.

“It is treason! A treasonable felony is economic sabotage; you don’t do that. We are trying to rebuild the economy. The President is making strides, and they want to destroy it. Of what use is that to all of us? That is not the way.”
