Italian oil and gas giant Eni, serving as the Delegated Operator of Area 4 alongside its partners ExxonMobil, CNPC, GALP, KOGAS, and ENH, has marked a major milestone with the production of 5 million tons of LNG from the Coral Sul FLNG.
This floating liquefied natural gas facility, stationed in the ultra-deep waters of the Rovuma Basin off the coast of Mozambique, achieved this feat since beginning production in October 2022.
The Coral Sul FLNG has successfully exported 70 LNG cargos and 10 condensate cargos, significantly contributing to Mozambique’s economic growth, a media report revealed. This achievement underscores not only a major technical and operational success but also highlights the dedication, commitment, and collaboration of all team members and stakeholders involved.
The Coral South project represents a pivotal moment for the industry, positioning Mozambique as a key player in the global LNG market and laying the groundwork for a transformative development of the country’s gas resources. It also supports a just and sustainable energy transition.
Marica Calabrese, Managing Director of Eni Rovuma Basin, expressed pride in reaching this milestone: “We are thrilled to announce this significant achievement today. It reaffirms our commitment to delivering exceptional value to Mozambique.
“We will continue collaborating with our partners and the Government of Mozambique to ensure the timely development of Mozambique’s vast gas resources. As we celebrate, we remain focused on maintaining safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence.”
