Ghana Gas, the national gas aggregator, has dismissed media reports alleging pressure on its CEO, Dr. Ben K.D Asante, to sign the contract for phase II of the Gas Pipeline Project (GPP2) in favor of a company linked to the presidency. The company termed the report as misleading.
In a statement issued by Ernest Kofi Owusu-Bempeh Bonsu, Head of Corporate Communications, Ghana Gas clarified that the contract award for the GPP2 project followed a rigorous tender process in compliance with relevant procurement laws.
According to the statement, the Board of Directors approved the GPP2 project in 2021, and management subsequently sought approval from the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) to adopt the Restricted Tender Procurement method. Four firms submitted tenders, and after evaluation, the selected tenderer was chosen, with approval from the Central Tender Review Committee (CTRC) of the Ministry of Finance.
“Ghana Gas and the selected tenderer have signed a Project Implementation Agreement outlining the terms for the EPCC project. Negotiations are ongoing with the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed for the project’s execution,” the statement read.
The company emphasized that its CEO has not faced external pressure to finalize any deal, dismissing the reports as mischievous. It urged the media to verify facts before publishing to safeguard individuals’ reputations.
