An explosion at Joyea Construction in Spintex, a suburb of Accra, Ghana’s capital, on Friday afternoon resulted in two fatalities and injuries to five others.
According to DOI Ebenezer Yenzu, the Tema Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, the incident occurred around 2:20 pm when an oxyacetylene gas tank used in metal fabrication ruptured. While there was no subsequent fire, the explosion prompted a swift response from firefighters dispatched to the scene.
DOI Yenzu highlighted that various factors, such as tank leakage or excessive concentration levels, could have led to the explosion. Investigations are underway to ascertain the precise cause, aiming to prevent similar incidents in the future.

He emphasized the importance of companies vigilantly monitoring industrial materials and equipment, advising regular checks for leaks and ensuring proper distancing from hot work areas to uphold safety standards.
