In the wee hours of Friday, September 29, 2023, a fire outbreak occurred at the Quantum LPG booster station near the VALCO roundabout in Tema, Republic of Ghana.
Prompt action by firefighters from the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) with support from the Ghana National Fire Service successfully contained the fire, preventing its spread, according to Energy News Africa.
Initial reports circulating on social media had suggested that the fire had engulfed the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) pipeline infrastructure. However, energynewsafrica.com can confirm that the fire did not originate from TOR’s pipeline.
The exact cause of the fire outbreak remains unclear. However, our sources indicate that it occurred while an LPG vessel was discharging LPG from the Oil Jetty, with the LPG being routed through the Quantum booster station to TOR on behalf of Fueltrade.
The Spokesperson of the Tema Oil Refinery, Matilda Adjoah Frempah, verified that the incident did not take place at the Tema Oil Refinery terminal.
She urged the public to dismiss reports suggesting otherwise and reassured that the fire authorities had effectively brought the situation under control. She further encouraged the public to remain calm.
