DoGAS Platform To Expand Nigeria’s Gas Policy Experience

The Decade of Gas Secretariat has launched the DoGAS website, a new platform aimed at providing critical information about Nigeria’s gas sector initiatives. This move aligns with the country’s Decade of Gas initiative, which seeks to enhance economic development and energy transition through increased natural gas production and consumption.

“Nigeria is committed to increasing her production and consumption of gas, with production expected to grow by over 50% during this decade,” a statement from the Secretariat said.

Recently, the Secretariat identified over twenty upstream projects capable of bridging the current 3 billion cubic feet per day gas deficit and delivering 4.6 billion cubic feet of daily production. This information was revealed during a training session for energy journalists at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos. The session, titled “Gas Basics and Awareness,” aimed to enhance journalists’ understanding of the sector to improve reporting on its technical and commercial aspects.

“Infrastructure is crucial to the success of Nigeria’s gas transition,” the Secretariat noted, highlighting the importance of increasing gas production and addressing transportation challenges. The Secretariat emphasized that drilling non-associated gas wells, less susceptible to vandalism, would secure an uninterrupted gas supply to power plants and industrial users.

The Secretariat expressed optimism that sustained efforts and government commitment would realise the vision of a gas-based economy, with 2024 objectives including closing the gas supply gap, achieving appropriate domestic gas pricing, and advocating for investor incentives to build critical gas infrastructure.
