Dangote in Talks with Libya, Angola, Others for Crude Oil Imports

Dangote Refinery is in discussions with Libya, Angola, and other African nations to secure crude oil imports to diversify its supply sources.

The refinery, which began operations in January, has been facing difficulties in securing sufficient crude supplies within Nigeria. Despite being Africa’s largest oil producer, the country is grappling with challenges such as theft, pipeline vandalism, and low investment, which have obstructed the refinery’s access to domestic crude.

Dangote has been importing crude from countries like Brazil and the United States. To diversify its supply sources, the company is also exploring options with other African nations.

“We are in talks with Libya to import crude,” said Devakumar Edwin, a senior executive at Dangote Refinery, in an interview with Reuters on Saturday. “We will also engage with Angola and other African countries.”

Although Edwin did not provide specifics about the negotiations, he disclosed that international traders and oil companies are among the major buyers of Dangote’s gasoil, which is primarily being exported.
