Over the weekend, the President of the Nigerian Senate Godswill Akpabio, led the Senate leadership to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lagos, lauding the achievement of Alhaji Aliko Dangote as a monumental feat.
Describing the refinery as the “Ninth Wonder of the World,” Akpabio highlighted Dangote’s remarkable accomplishment in completing the project in record time, surpassing the expectations of sceptics and proving the resilience of the Nigerian spirit.
The Senate President, alongside other dignitaries, pledged the National Assembly’s unwavering support to protect and uphold the significance of the refinery, emphasizing its pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic landscape.

Akpabio applauded Dangote’s remarkable achievement in constructing the largest single-train refinery globally and underscored the significance of the project for Nigeria and Africa.
“They told us in Abuja that the Dangote Refinery was a farce, but we have come here to see for ourselves that the refinery is alive and running. Dangote has put to shame a lot of people. They are wondering how it will be possible for a single individual to accomplish what a whole nation could not accomplish; what 240 million people could not maintain; what a continent could not do, and then one person will build a 650,000bpd project.
“They keep wondering how one person can succeed where nations have failed; where continents have failed. But Dangote has done it. It is highly commendable. We came to see the refinery because we in the current Senate believe in the Nigerian dream. We didn’t come as a doubting Thomas, but we came because we believe in the project, we came to rekindle the hope of Nigerians and the ‘Nigerians can do’ spirit.”
He lamented the historical challenges faced by the nation in refinery operations and commended Dangote and his team for demonstrating the potential of dreaming big and achieving success within Nigeria’s borders.
Moreover, Akpabio highlighted the transformative impact of the Dangote Refinery on Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, emphasizing its potential to alleviate the nation’s reliance on imported petroleum products and stimulate economic growth through job creation and foreign exchange earnings. He pledged the Senate’s support to facilitate the refinery’s operations and ensure its success, recognizing it as a symbol of national pride and achievement.
