CNOOC’s first “ultra-deep” well offshore China achieves high production yield. The company announced that it has achieved strong production rates from its first ultra-deep well into the subsurface beneath Bohai Bay, eastern China.
The Bozhong 19-6 condensate gas field D1 well, which currently produces about 6,300 boe/d, was drilled in central Bohai Bay in 20 m water depth and to an overall depth of 6,088 m. The field contains more than 200 Bcm of gas and more than 200 MMcm of condensate, as estimated by CNOOC.
CNOOC adopted an “overall planning, phased implementation and pilot first” strategy to develop this field. CNOOC developed the field through various projects in 2020, 2023 and 2024. The gas field is currently producing approximately 37,500 boed.
CNOOC Vice President Sun Fujie said, “The high-yield well further confirms the promising potential of offshore deep-buried hill plays. The exploration and development of oil and gas resources in the deep plays is expected to accelerate.”
