Angolan national police seized 2,455 liters of fuel intended for illegal sale in Namibia on Monday. The fuel, comprising both petrol and diesel, was confiscated in the Namacunde area of Cunene province, which borders Namibia.
The operation, led by Chief Superintendent Nicolau Tuvecalela, involved seizing the fuel from homes, public roads, and fuel pumps, particularly near the Santa Clara municipality. The fuel was packed in 25 and 200-liter drums and was being transported through illegal routes, a crime under Angolan law.
As a result of the anti-smuggling operation, eleven individuals, including two Namibians, were arrested. According to Energy News Africa, the province of Cunene shares a 460-kilometer border with Namibia, consisting of 340 kilometers of land and 120 kilometers along a river.
