REA-powered 1 MW mini-grid nears completion in Kano

The Rural Electrification Agency of Nigeria (REA) has hinted that the 1 Mega Watts interconnected mini-grid being built by the agency in Zawaciki community – Kano state – is nearing completion.

In a press statement, it said the project is designed to serve Nigerians who had little or no access to energy before now. It added that, “with keen attention to sustainability and productive use of energy for socio-economic development, the Zawaciki interconnected mini-grid, upon completion will serve thousands of previously under-served Nigerians”.

It said “the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Power, and the REA as an implementing Agency, continues to expand and strengthen the renewable energy space through multi-stakeholder participation and the deployment of fit-for-purpose technologies to power Nigeria”.

The press statement was accompanied by Images of progress made in equipment installations and supervision efforts by the Management team of the Agency led by the Managing Director/CE, Ahmed Salihijo at Zawaciki in Kano state.

Energy Afrique can confirm similar projects executed in various locations of the country to be functional but the unique feature of the Zawaciki 1MW project is the share size and the location which is anticipated to impact the productivity of Zawaciki and environs, a settlement which is largely agrarian with potentials for agro processing.
